Frequently Asked Questions About Donating

Why does St Luke's Home of Healing need donations urgently?
In early 2026, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health unexpectedly withdrew its state funding subsidies for St Luke’s Home of Healing. This subsidy was a critical part of the facility’s operating budget. Without replacement funding from the community, the placement of all 26 full-time residents with severe mental and physical disabilities is at risk. Community donations are now the primary lifeline sustaining daily care, medical support, and the dignity of every resident.
How is my donation used at St Luke's?
100% of your donation goes directly toward resident care. This includes daily nursing and personal care for 26 adults with severe disabilities, specialised dietary and nutritional supplements, physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions, essential medical supplies and adult incontinence products, facility maintenance and utilities at the Holwood Estate campus, and staff wages for 24/7 caregiving professionals.
Is my donation to St Luke's tax-deductible?
Yes. St Luke’s Home of Healing is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) in South Africa. All financial donations qualify for tax deductions under Section 18A of the South African Income Tax Act. An official tax receipt is issued automatically for every donation processed through our website.
